How to use it

  1. Type the child’s name. Letters A to Z only; accents are dropped so the page prints cleanly.
  2. Pick the level. Easy uses only other letters around the path; medium and hard mix in the name’s own letters, so kids have to read them in order.
  3. Press New maze for another layout, then Download PDF: page 1 is the maze, page 2 the answer key.

Tips

  • Make one for every child in the class: each new name takes a second.
  • Say each letter out loud while coloring it, then write the name at the top.
  • Start with Easy, then move up once kids know their letters.

Questions

What is a name maze?

A grid of letter boxes. The child colors the letters of their name in order, again and again, to find the one way from START to FINISH. It builds letter recognition and name spelling.

Which ages is it for?

Easy suits ages 3 to 5, medium ages 4 to 6, and hard ages 5 to 7. The bigger the grid, the more times the name repeats.

Is there only one way through?

Yes. The path never touches itself, and no box next to it holds the letter that comes next, so reading the name in order leads one way only.

Is the name I type sent anywhere?

No. The maze is made in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
